«Sincere condolences to the family of Petr Hrouban»
The Mayor and the Municipal Council, as the highest expression of Kalymnian society, express their deep sorrow and sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, as well as to the wider climbing community, for this tragic loss.

The unfortunate incident occurred in a remote and steep area, under particularly adverse weather conditions. From the very first moment, a complex and demanding rescue operation was launched, with the support of aerial means, the Fire Service personnel, a specialized doctor, and the outstanding volunteer rescue team. This team has, over time, carried out remarkable work with a strong sense of responsibility, exceptional professionalism, and respect for human life, having successfully conducted dozens of rescue and evacuation operations in the field. Everyone involved made every possible human effort.

Climbers are an integral part of our local life. For Kalymnos, they are not simply visitors; they are part of a large family with whom strong bonds of friendship, trust, and solidarity have been built. This blessed place has long embraced the global climbing community, generously offering its warmth and hospitality.

Kalymnos remains a safe and well-organized destination. Care for the safety of visitors and activities is constant and tangible. Maintenance of climbing routes is carried out consistently over time, and currently, an extensive program for the maintenance and upgrading of climbing sectors is underway, with a budget of several hundred thousand euros.

At the same time, a conference is being planned, co-organized by the Municipality of Kalymnos with the participation of the UIAA International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (the competent international institutional body responsible for establishing and supervising safety standards in climbing and mountaineering). Members of the Federation from around the world will take part, along with a series of initiatives that will further strengthen the already high levels of safety on the island.
Kalymnos remains a place of safety, hospitality, and life.
